Uber Green is available in Madrid. The American company has presented its new service that allows users of the platform to travel in 100% electric vehicles at the same price as its UberX product.
As explained by the company and the launch of Uber Green is part of the commitment of become a zero emission mobility platform in 2040 worldwide. The company has designed a strategy to achieve this goal. The first of the goals has been placed in 2025.
This year it expects that 50% of the kilometers traveled through its platform in the set of seven European capitals. Specifically, the cities of Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Lisbon, London, Madrid and Paris they have been chosen to deploy their plan to use zero-emission vehicles.
Five years later, In 2030, Uber aims to become a zero emissions platform in Europe, the United States and Canada. A step that, 10 years later, will be taken by the 10,000 cities in which Uber is present.
5 million investment in Madrid
The company’s objective is that 100% of the trips be made in zero-emission vehicles, public transport and micromobility. To achieve this goal, Uber will invest $800 million in aid drivers to cover the costs of acquiring and charging electric vehicles, the main barriers that hinder access to electric mobility.
In the Community of Madrid, Uber will invest 5 million euros in its transition strategy to the electric vehicle. During the first phase, Uber Green will be available with a fleet of 70 vehicles within the M-30, with the aim of expanding the coverage radius to all of Madrid in the coming months.
The CEO of Uber in Spain, Juan Galiardo, has explained the bases of its strategy. “As the largest mobility platform in the world, we have a key role in the fight against climate change. Today we take a big step in our commitment to become a zero emissions platform by launching the first 100% electric product in Spain. And we do it hand in hand with the Community of Madrid, Repsol and Banco Santander to, together, put Madrid at the forefront of electrification in Europe”.
Agreements with Repsol and Banco Santander
The collaboration agreements with Repsol and Banco Santander with the objective of supporting drivers throughout Spain in the transition to electric vehicles. The agreement signed with Repsol is focused on promoting the use and adoption of the electric vehicle among professional drivers, facilitating access to public access charging points and the multi-energy company’s home chargers.
Thus, VTC and taxi drivers who work with Uber will have a discount of up to 21% on contracts of Repsol’s public electricity supply subscription to recharge in Repsol’s public electricity recharging infrastructure network. In addition, if drivers choose to install a charging point at their home, Repsol will offer a comprehensive solution that has the guarantee that the origin of the electricity is 100% renewable.
In addition, Repsol offers two free recharges per month at its public charging stations and one 50% discount on Waylet balance for all those Uber drivers who contract the Repsol home electricity rate.
For its part, Banco Santander will make available to self-employed driversleasing programs (taxi and VTC) and renting (VTC) to acquire electric vehicles under special conditions, in order to accelerate the path towards a zero-emission mobility platform.
Thus, Uber brings to Madrid one of the services that will have the most weight in the future of the company. A commitment to decarbonise its activity which will allow it to reduce the impact of its services in the Spanish capital and, furthermore, position it as one of the companies that is firmly committed to providing electric mobility services.
